Capacity check: 5 sq ft of house at the common 4 sq ft per standard hen is one to two birds indoors, so treat 2–4 as a roosting figure and give them daytime range or a separate run. The manufacturer says the same thing in its own words — "recommended pairing with a chicken run."

Two wheels and a lift handle at the opposite end make this a one-person move across a level lawn. We list it as a coop on wheels rather than a true tractor, because it has a floor rather than an open base — if you want the flock grazing directly on the grass, look at the open-bottom tractors instead.

The manufacturer states assembly is required and ships the coop with pre-cut panels; it does not state carton count or assembly time. Buying this as a gift? It arrives flat-packed and whoever unwraps it will need tools, a flat surface and a second pair of hands — we'd rather you heard that from us than found it out on Christmas morning.

Empty the pull-out tray weekly and hose it off; that is most of the work. Park it on mown, reasonably level grass — 3.9-inch wheels are small, so soft ground and thick tussocks will fight you. Move it every few days so the patch underneath recovers instead of turning to bare dirt.

These are long, heavy, flat-packed cartons, so they travel by freight rather than parcel post. We confirm your delivery window in writing once your order is placed, and you get tracking as soon as the cartons leave the warehouse. If we can't meet the window we gave you, we'll tell you and you can cancel for a full refund.

Plan to be there when it arrives. Freight is a kerbside delivery — the driver is not carrying a 95-inch carton round the back for you.
